Support for Families
The experience of animal loss can be profound for family members (of all species).
From personal and professional experience, I know that it isn't uncommon for us to mourn for our beloved animal family more deeply than some of our most intimate human relationships.
Our animal family members hold a special place in our lives and our hearts.
They are interwoven into our daily living in ways that no one else is. Often our animal family are our best friends, special companions, and closest confidantes. We take comfort in looking at them, laughing at their antics, touching their body, speaking and playing with them.
And we miss them beyond words.
Their unconditional love. Their unconditional acceptance.
For some people the depth of this loss blindsides them, catching them by surprise. Some people even feel confused (or guilty) for having such deep feelings of loss.
What makes it even harder is that our loss isn't often recognised by others. Animal loss is known as disenfranchised grief for this reason. You may feel even more alone and isolated when your loss is isn't supported.
We can experience loss even before our animal family transitions. You may have been experiencing grief for years (known as anticipatory grief) if your animal has a chronic illness.
I help normalise animal loss, grief, mourning and bereavement. I offer support by facilitating communication with your animal family and recommending resources (including professional grief counselling specialising in animal companion loss).
Our animal family members also grieve the loss of human/ animal family members. They too may benefit from additional support to help them with their grief. With animal communication you can learn how they're feeling and how they want to be supported.
